Hi All,

I'm trying to complete a "best of" list for 1983 from 91X, a local alternative station in San Diego. I have almost everything but just few songs. One in particular though is giving me a really hard time. Does anyone know what #64 on the list is, "123 by NEI"? I can't remember it nor find any references for it on the Internet.

I'm also trying to find the following:

Belly of the Whale by Burning Sensations
Watching by the Thompson Twins
Oblivious by Aztec Camera
Power and the Passion by Midnight Oil

Here's a link to the list: http://www.91x.com/top_91_1983.html

Thanks.

Can't help with the first one, but the other 4 songs should be easy to find:

„Watching“ by Thompson Twins can be found on their CD „Quick Step & Side Kick”.

“Oblivious” by Aztec Camera is available on the CD “Hard Rain” and the band’s “Best of..” CD.

“Belly of the Whale” by Burning Sensations is on Living In Oblivion: The 80's Greatest Hits - Volume 4.

“Power & The Passion” by Midnight Oil is basically on every “Best of..” by Midnight Oil and “10,9,8,7..” which is available as a Nice Price CD.

NE1 - 123 was a song on the 91X Rock To Riches compilation, I have posted it here quite some time ago, it's an awesome tune and If no one posts it today I will be happy to tonight. The entire side of that record was awesome!
It is line to rip the rest of the songs on it as well but I do have this one and then eight6's rip of The Seventh- Then I Turn Away

N.E.1 - 1,2,3 (A killer tune reminiscent of English Beat)

Wow, thanks Coop!

I'm amazed you had that song by N-E-1 (and not N-E-I as I had miss-posted.) I remember them now. They were a local ska band and I even think I saw them in concert once or twice at an 18 and over club called "Headquarters" that was located in PB.

There was another big ska band back then from L.A. I can't remember their name, but they had a hit song called "Free Yourself" or "Free Yourselves" that also got a lot of play on 91X and KROQ. Do you remember their name? I'm sure it will come to me.

Thanks too Mondino. I've located most of them and I'm sure I'll get the rest. :)

You're welcome, I'm sure you are probably talking about The Untouchables - Free Yourself

N-E-1 actually released one full length LP that I am aware of....great 91X type stuff - very similiar to 1-2-3. I believe the LP was titled "So We Go"

To the best of my knowledge it's ultra-rare. Never seen it pop up on GEMM or e-bay......probably rotting away in the dollar bins of San Diego area record stores.

Nice to see someone remembering this great little obscurity.
