Hi All:

Does anyone have any idea of the name of a new wave band that did a cover of Bowie's 'The Man who sold the world'? I hear it a lot on XM's Fred (the classic alternative station), however, the band's name is never listed. I really like this version and would love to find it. I would appreciate anyone's help.

Thanks!

I presume it's not the cover by Nirvana that you heard?...

Richard Barone of the Bongos did a version on his 1987 album "Cool Blue Halo". Not sure if this is the one you heard, but it pre-dates Nirvana's by about 6 years and sounds very similar in style.

@Cispas: No it wasn't the Nirvana version. The version I'm referring to was released probably a lot earlier than Nirvana's cover. Thanks, though.

@bigwavedave: I'll try to find this version to see if it's it. Thanks for responding.

Hi again,
According to Discogs, Midge Ure also did a version of TMWSTW (1985, b-side of the If I Was 12").

Thanks all for your replies and suggestions. Cispas, I'm trying to remember the voice of the person that sang the cover I'm referring to. It does sound a little like Midge Ure, but I'm not sure. I will certainly look into that.

Thanks again everyone.

<p align="justify">If it's not Nirvana's, then it's gotta be Midge Ure's. No other cover would even come close in recognition or airplay.
