Early 80's, new wave/alternative. I even had the single on vinyl once. The lyrics went something like: "I want to be rough, I want to be tough, just like you. I'm a lonesome cowboy, yippie aye yea".

Note: there was another "lonesome cowboy" song out at about the same time and the two songs tend to get confused.

Sounds like "Lonesome Cowboy Bill" by The Velvet Underground

Good try, but that's not it unfortunatly. It was a much more obscure artist than the Velvet Underground. Thanks though.

The other song I was thinking of that was played a lot in the same circles at about the same time was "I Wanna Be Your Cowboy"

Good try (again), but still not it. They have a sample on Amazon that I just listened to, but its still not the right song. Thanks though.

Urban Struggle by The Vandals? Not really close lyrically to what you posted but worth a shot maybe.

Funny! I remember that one too. Still not the right song though. Seems to be a popular theme for 80's songs.

Ok, this time I think I got it but good luck verifying it. Is it Lonesome Cowboy by Cutting Edge?

That's it! Or at least I think that that is it! I'm going to have to do some digging to confirm. Great Job! I've been looking for that info for a couple of years.

Thanks!!!

No problem, hope you find it! It was starting to bug me that I couldn't find it and once I get pissed off there's no stopping me.
