I can't wait 'til I get an answer

Probably not new wave, but a memory of this song bubbled up from my subconcious, possibly in distorted or confused form and it's driving me crazy

This was a song that got a bit of airplay probably '78 or '79 I think on one of our local AOR stations, but those did pay an occasional new wave tune. I'm thinking it was Sammy Hagar or Robert Palmer but I'm not so sure. The lyrics as I remember them go a little like this:

I'm a long long distance from (something that rhymes with "answer")
I can't wait 'til I get an answer

which I know isn't much. I think the song says something about a telephone, but it's not Foreigner's "Love on the Telephone" from Head Games.

I know it's not much to go on. Any ideas?

Interesting note on this song. According to allmusic.com, it was written by Mickey Jupp and released in 1979 by Mickey Jupp, Nick Lowe, Gary Brooker and the Searchers. That seems awfully quick for a song to get covered that many times. I wonder which ve

I did find the Nick Lowe version. I think it's the one I remember. Man, that song was bugging me for months.
