Does anyone know about a band called the Seventh who had a song called
then i turn away? I was looking at the website for 91X and i saw the
song at No. 82 on the year end countdown for 1984. I've never heard the
song before and can't find any information on the internet.
Does anyone know anything about it?

THE SEVENTH did release the song "THEN I TURN AWAY" on a 91x compilation LP back around 1983-1984. It's a great song that never received the attention it deserved outside of California. The vocal stylings remind me of THE CHURCH and the song is a great blend of moody guitar and synth. Not too commercial in sound but still very catchy. A great obscurity for 80's collectors. For years, I searched for addititional information on the band and tried to find any other commercially available releases - but no luck. I even spoke with some other artists who were out there at the same time and no one was able to help. Just another mystery in obscure 80's history! Hope someone can provide more details on this great band.

Great info. I'm now dying of curiosity. You don't by chance have a copy of this song or comp do you??

I have a couple of these comps, but I haven't looked at them in a while. I think I have the 83 and 84 editions. I'll have a look when I get home.

OK, I've had a look and I do have this one, (strangely enough it's still sealed, I usually can't resist opeing sealed stuff I get) so if ocean hasn't got a readily available mp3, let me know and I'll try to get to it by the weekend.

Wow eight6, I'd hate to have to crack the seal, but if you're going to anyway, I'd love to get a copy somehow. If Ocean doesn't get back to us, name your price in return! Dinner at Susur if you're in Toronto or Club Chasse et Peche if Montreal next time I'm up???

Way ahead of you Blir! I guess it came in the mail the same day as a couple of others and I forgot to open it. I'll try to get a mp3'd copy of the song out to you and jumpshift by the weekend.
BTW, I'm not really a vinyl madman, I just buy stuff that tends to be hard to find. For example, my collection of New Order consists of a copy of Blue Monday, that's it. Their stuff is readily available, so I don't feel the need to acquire it. I know...weird. I tried to explain it to my wife once: the next day she gave a business card for a psychiatrist and suggested I call.

Sorry jumpshift, forgot to add that part. It's on the 1983 91x talent search record titled "Rags to Riches". Unfortunately, this one doesn't have any liner notes on the bands (the 1984 version does) so I can't help you with any more info on the band.

I'll collect on the favor:
Shoot anybody who says they are in a band called "Screaming for Emily", and we'll call it even.[:D][:D][:D]
Just kidding...no need to feel in debt.
