Ok, so I've been on this board for 3 days now, and for some reason I feel like I should make this my introductory post (there is a song question in here later if not all of you feel like reading through this.) Anyway, I am a huge lover of 80's music in general, not just New Wave, but, since I was born in the 80's, I didn't get much of a chance to be into the music scene at the time. While I have a pretty impressive collection, there is a lot I'm just plain not familiar with, which is one reason I love this site. So anyway, I know I'm going to have several questions; I thought I would just make 1 thread in here that I would use every time I have a question rather than created a new thread each time. Makes sense I hope [:)]



Anyway, here's what I can't identify. Listening to 80's radio today I heard a song I've never heard, it was very 80's sounding and had a male English singer. From what I gathered the song was about a guy gambling (made a reference to rolling dice) and one of the lyrics was "Wind him up, He can't stop" and I think the next part said "Winding his second hand." This was also the chorus of the song.

This song made me think of Chris DeBurgh, but I have so much DeBurgh I'd be shocked if it was him and I'd never heard it. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

HA! Saga's "On The Loose" was an early MTV staple. While not my favorite band or anything I can't help but sing along - so if you're gonna bother w/Saga might as well check out "On The Loose" while you're at it.

Spectre, I hope your'e not scared off by the elitist replies to your liking a Saga song. The point is, you heard a song and you liked it. You might find that some New Wave people have a narrow scope in their music tastes. Like you, I like alot of 80's music, New Wave, Progressive (which by the way is more what Saga is considered).
Just like alot of bands, Saga got somewhat commercial and a bit lame later in their career but they still did some good stuff especially on their first 3 albums. Oh, by the way they're from Canada.

Me thinks ya should look up elitist in the dictionary.
It'll give you the correct spelling as well.

my point, rotten typing skills that are mistaken for spelling aside, is that nobody got sensitive or took offense except you...I was just pointing out your post was ill informed...there was no reason to warn S_G about being 'scared off'...relax...

Cuz what you didn't know is that all of these folks, well, most of them, know and like S_G quite well from the Hub...and if you were there, you would see the most wide ranging taste in music imaginable from every one of the people that posted here that have a presence there too...so go easy, ok?

and come join us on the hub...you're welcome to share your Saga as well as S_Gs Captain and Tenielle...(and if I spelled that wrong it's just because my scope isn't as wide as some)...[:D]

But hey - I have a folder full of Toni Basil up on the hub - no one should ever going to confuse me with an elitist, or a purist....or someone that has taste[:D]!

BTW, got both Saga songs, thanks guys. I think the only reason they played it in the first place is because it's a Canadian radio station. Funny, a lot of Canadian bands don't get second look. I've always heard Kim Mitchell is a good Canadian 80's artitst, but aside from "Go For Soda" I've never heard any of his songs.

Spectre:

Kim was in a band called Max Webster, and released 5 (I think) lp's. Some pretty good stuff, but not at all new wave. He has also released a bunch of solo work. The song "Patio Lanterns" comes to mind.

BTW: Everybody else may be joking about Saga, but I wasn't!!![:D]
