Ok, this has been bothering me for years now. When Joey died, the NY area stations played lots of tributes. During the 24 x 7 Ramones airtime, I heard one song that really caught my ear and I'll be deeply indebted to whomever can identify it for me.

Here's all I have...

It was a slow, melancholy song and nothing like the typical Ramones formula (maybe a Joey Ramone solo??). It was catchy, and quite sad considering the circumstances. I mostly remember Joey singing.

maybe what your looking for is 'I Get Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)' off 'Don't Worry About Me', Joey's last and only solo album?

It was written while he was dying and is pretty powerful stuff

well that's not much to go on.............joey sang all their songs.........pretty much and they had quite a few slower tunes.....

Sins - I have gone through lots of AMG and Amazon clips but it's like finding a needle in a haystack, so I gave up. I was just hoping it might click in someone's head. I have had other "long shots" solved on this board. For a laugh, take a look at this "long shot" thread...

And getting songs ID'ed is how I found NWO in the first place (long before there was even a message board). Mike P. solved a mystery song for me with little more than "the first cut" in the lyrics.

Come on waukena, point to the right field bleachers and knock this Ramones stumper out of the park!

I gotta build a computer tonight for somebody...while I do that I'll go through all my Ramones stuff and see what jumps out...do you remember the structure of the tune? Were there acoustic guitars involved or just a slower rock setup...we'll get it...

maybe "i want you around" from "rock n roll high school" the movie....their best ballad and also probably the only song they ever did with a lead guitar break !!!!

ok, so I'm half through with the computer I'm building and half through my Ramones files...nothing yet that would conjur up what you asked...however...I did email Vin Scelsa, a legend in New York radio who was very close to Joey for a lot of years and is the DJ name checked in 'Do You Believe in Rock and Roll Radio'...he got back to me right away...Vin rocks...

That's it!! Nice one raserx. I hope my description, or lack thereof, wasn't too far off... but you did get it! I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend has a great jangly, almost 'Phil Spector' sound. I think the lyrics hit me as pretty sad in the days following his death.

Cool! I was finally able to answer one of these before the usual big guns beat me to it! When you said "melancholy" thats the song that popped into my head. One of my favorite memories of the 80's was seeing the Ramones live at Malibu night club in Lido Beach,NY.I was standing right in front of the stage. My ears are still ringing from that show.
