Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone out there might be able to I.D. two songs from circa 1985:

the first one is a post punk song which I believe is called "acceleration" with distorted and chorused guitars (a la Killing Joke), the vocalist sounds English, but may not be. The chorus obviously chants "acceleration"..... I remember someone told me, but they may be wrong, that the band name had colors in it, like Green Red, or something like that, but I may be confusing that with something else.

The second one I am guessing is called something like (living in a) cockpit, it also came out around 1985, and I was told it was a solo project from someone from echo and the bunnymen. A verse goes "I don't trust automatic pilot, I don't want to be here when the fallout comes... any ideas? Mario?

BTW everyone, Patrick is an old college friend of mine who possesses a very broad knowledge of music, and is quite a DJ too![8D]

I don't know about colors, but the very English Bill Nelson did a song called "Acceleration" in 1984, and the word was repeated a lot. Not a definite answer, but...

The second one is definitely "Cockpit" by Dirk Blanchart. From the '85 album "Europe Blue."

thanks for the IDs! The Blanchart one is spot on! I was living in Belgium in 1985, and just assumed I would be able to find this when I moved, which I never did, and it just faded into obscurity. He has a fantastic voice, amazing lyrics, and amazing production and arrangements, the guys a genius.

Now the problem is trying to buy his stuff. I would love the have his greatest hits compilation from 83-93 for startes, listed on his website. Anyhoo, anyone who has his stuff and wants to swap some mp3s, let me know...

The Urban Verbs one might be right for acceleration, I know its not Bill Nelson, I have that one. I would have to hear the Urban Verbs though, are they post punk?

Glad to help.

I don't have his greatest hits -- or really much of anything of his -- but I do have that one LP, and it's basically awful. The only song on there that I ended up liking was "I Don't Mind if the Sputnik Lands," which was the reason I got it. Don't think it was ever released in the U.S.

Of course, Dirk had nothing to do with Echo & The Bunnymen. At least not to my knowledge!
