Associates - Punch / Drawer / Sulk Remasters

Associates - Punch / Drawer / Sulk Remasters

According to the Affectionate Bunch page on Facebook BMG are prepping new versions of The Affectionate Punch, Fourth Drawer Down and Sulk for later this year. High hopes these will be more definitive than the V2 versions, all b-sides etc included.

I have the earlier remasters. The Affectionate Punch could definitely do with a newer version. Surprised that Perhaps/Glamour Chase weren't included.

That's great news - these classics should always be in print. I just hope that they don't brickwall the mastering like last time - they were WAY too loud and all the dynamics were sucked right out. Heartbreaking it was, especially since the packaging and bonus tracks, etc. were done with so much love and care.

This is good news , it would be great ( especially for Sulk) to have a deluxe version with 12" versions and b sides etc

I would have liked to seen perhaps as well included especially with 12" version of those first impressions which I don't think has ever been out on CD and is a great version

I'm curious as to what version of The Affectionate Punch they are going to use. It's been said that Billy did not like the original recording so he stole the masters, and the CD for that version is in fact entirely from vinyl. The re-recorded version does sound nicer but the CD version I have has the mastertape starting to drag slower and slower on the last song. Would like to have that version reissued and with this track repaired. That being said, I find these albums extremely spotty.

A double CD for Affectionate Punch would be the best solution, with both versions of the album.

And yes Perhaps would also be great as well as Glamour Chase, with lots of extras.

Billy and Alan may have been unhappy with the 1st version of the AP, but Billy definitely HATED the remix album that was finished without the band's input. Billy and Alan remade only 1 or 2 songs <"A" is one of them> and then lost interest, but then the label finished it and released it. It's absolutely horrible, imho as well, except "A" and I think it's "Would I Bounce Back", the 2 songs Billy and Alan worked on, and which were released on a single as well. It was a shame this was the only version on cd until the 2005 remaster. I never heard that that was a needle drop!

I'll grab whatever new reissues they put out. What about a new best of that collects all the 12" mixes in one place ? dj Paul on burningtheground.net has some really wonderful vinyl 12" mixes of the Associates.

Really looking forward to these releases.

I hope to god that the 1982-version of The Affectionate Punch will be a part of this. It is so much better than the original album. I don't care that Billy and Alan are supposed to have hated it. If so, it just prove once again that artists often fail when they judge their own music.

Especially on songs like "Paper House" (Billys's singing is divine) and "Even dogs in the wild" the new versions are so much better that I can't bring myself to listen to the original versions.

What a huge pic! Yes, I already pre-ordered this from Amazon UK. They don't have the full 2 cd track listing there yet. It's the 1st release from the gang working on these new Associates remasters, albeit on a budget label, not the label that the other releases will be on. All explained on the "Affectionate Bunch" Facebook page. This set will have 3 unreleased tracks and a nice booklet so it's kind of essential, at least to die-hard Associates/Billy fans like myself. I'm really psyched for these new releases, never thought they'd get another shot on physical media. Again, I just hope and pray they don't brickwall them like last time. Another reason I want to hear this new comp!

Edit - I see they changed the track listing for disc 1 on Amazon - the previous track list for disc 1 had a lot of songs from the "Double Hipness" comp, which I thought was weird for a "Best Of" comp!
