New Orange Juice compilation

New Orange Juice compilation

Postby skinnytie » Sat Apr 09, 2005 10:23 am

I was in the local used record/ CD store I frequent today, and I realized that the CD they were playing in the store was indeed by Orange Juice. I asked the guy at the counter about it, and he said it was a new anthology coming out, and he was playing the store's advance copy of the disc. This copy was so advance, it didn't have any artwork or anything with it, just a xerox of the song titles. Unfortunately, I don't have a photographic memory to remember all the stuff on it, but "Poor Old Soul" (parts I and II) and "Texas Fever" made it onto the disc, and it appears to be on a label called Domino. It didn't look like a greatest hits type compilation. I was disappointed to see that one of their b-sides that I've been looking for on CD, "Snake Charmer", didn't make it onto this collection. Anyone else hear of this upcoming release and when we might expect it in stores?

This is a good sign for more Postcard (Orange Juice's label) to perhaps release stuff from the vaults. When an Anthology comes out, this could mean the catalog comes out too! Here's hoping the old Orange Juice albums get remastered and released! It is cool when a band like Franz makes the big time and then as a result we get some of the culture they grew up with in their scene in Glasgow. Nirvana did it too with Daniel Johnston, the Raincoats, and basically a ton of other releases! While Domino is at it, maybe they could release some other crucial Glasgow stuff. The Fire Engines and early Aztec Camera stuff, and some other bands from that scene are still hard to find, costly on vinyl, and difficult to track down, maybe they'll release some of that too!
