Sparks No.1 In Heaven / Is There More To Life Than Dancing

Sparks No.1 In Heaven / Is There More To Life Than Dancing

Postby BigManRestless » Wed Mar 06, 2024 1:36 am

To celebrate the 45th anniversaries of the Sparks album No.1 In Heaven and the Sparks written-and-produced lost gem Is There More To Life Than Dancing? by Noël, these two revolutionary records will be released by Lil' Beethoven Records this spring.

First will be a double coloured vinyl release on April 20th, with No.1 In Heaven in white and Is There More To Life Than Dancing? in green. In America this will be part of Record Store Day so will available be only in RSD independent stores in America. Everywhere else this special double vinyl package will be on general release.

Then on May 17th the albums will released worldwide on CD. Each album will be a double CD, with an abundance of bonus tracks. Is There More To Life Than Dancing? even includes Russell's original guide vocals for the album as well as special liner notes written by Noël.

Where can we find this information?

I have that 2013 Repertoire version (German) of the 1979 album which had a lot of bonus tracks but it was only 1 CD.

Thanks anyway ;-)

I wonder how you can make a double CD from the 35 min long, 5 track Noel EP???

By the way, a couple of tracks from this EP were added as bonus to a Japanese CD release of "No.1 song".

I wish her second release --

is also given a re-release treatment

That came from the Sparks fan club newsletter. I'll update when I get the info!

I hope there are out-takes, or at least alternate versions of the tracks. I think the Japanese CDs mopped up most of them, but I think the Alternate Mix of Beat The Clock from the UK 7" has still eluded CD release.

I'm sure this is going to be another disappointing reissue. The album has been reissued a few times already and I bought them all only to discover that the DR is too low and the sound is too unpleasant. Even on the vinyl. The first Oasis CD reissue had DR 10, the later 8 or 7. Eventually I made a digital copy of my original US LP and after a few hours of cutting off the cracks and pops I got what I needed. This album is a masterpiece of electro-disco and has to be reissued for audiophiles at last.

The track listings for the 2CD versions are now out there.

No.1 In Heaven

CD1 - as original album

CD2

Tryouts For The Human Race (Alternative Long Version)
Beat The Clock (Long Version)
The Number One Song In Heaven (Single Version)
Tryouts For The Human Race (Single Version)
Beat The Clock (Single Version)
La Dolce Vita (Single Version)
Beat The Clock (Alternative Version)
Tryouts For The Human Race (Alternative Short Version)
Peter Cook Promo For Tryouts For The Human Race

BTC Alternative version making it's CD debut, all the others previously available.

Is There More To Life Than Dancing?

CD1 - as original album

CD2
I Just Want To Be Seen With You
My Night
I Never Want To Be A Mother
Dancing Is Dangerous (Part 1)
Dancing Is Dangerous (Part 2)
The Night They Invented Love (Single Version)
I Want A Man (Single Version)
Dancing Is Dangerous (Instrumental Version)
I Just Want To Be Seen With You (Russell Mael Guide Vocal Version)
I Never Want To Be A Mother / Au Revoir (Russell Mael Guide Vocal Version)
Dancing Is Dangerous / Is There More To Life Than Dancing (Russell Mael Guide Vocal Version)

The Noel CD is infinitely more interesting, not least for three previously undocumented Mael songs, plus Russell's guide vocals. Shame there isn't one for I Want A Man!
