These guys were more Punk than they were New Wave, from the one album I used to own.I don't remember much by them.Just their hit song "Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps Please" which was very good Punk. They also had one Ska song that I liked called "Whimsy Zoom Zoom" but the rest of the album was just way too hardcore Punk for me,so I didn't keep the album.
Now I don't mind Punk just as long as it is only Punk and not hardcore Punk.I could never get into Hardcore Punk for some reason.I guess because it basically all sounds the same to me,at least in my opinion.I used to at one time thought that The Sex Pistols fell into the hardcore Punk catagory, until I heard more songs by them, and then realized that they were just Punk, and not hardcore Punk. Some songs are not even what I would consider Punk by The Pistols, unless one would call it mild Punk.To me their song "Silly Thing" sounds much more New Wave, than it does Punk,at least vocally and musically it does.
To me Silly Thing even sounds like a song that The Ramones could have done, and basically to me The Ramones seemed to be at times on the borderline of Punk and New Wave, with alot of Bubblegum mixed in.I never ever considered the Ramones to be that Punk, except for their earlier material, and then some much later material.
Anyway,as far as Splodgenessabounds goes,I really didn't care much by them, but then I only heard that one album, and had nothing else to judge them on.If I could hear alot more by them,I am sure I will know weather I like them better or not.But I don't think that they have a Greatest Hits Collection out on CD.
Can anyone give me a better idea if they did any better albums than the one album with Whimzy Zoom Zoom on it? And if they became more of a New Wave band as time went on? I would just like to know if they did any better albums as time went on.Thanks.
