The Inmates

These guys were one of the very firstr New Wave bands from 1979 that I first discovered.The radio helped me discover their cover of the old Standells hit "Dirty Water" at the time.Did anyone notice the change in the lyrics when The Inmates say oh London your my home,instead of The Standells saying Boston your my home?

For a late 70's early 80's New Wave band these guys sure got the short end of the stick.They had one huge hit and then faded away completely,but I do have their first two albums on Polydor that they put out.Some songs tend to have more of a Blues sound,and at other times they sound more like The Rolling Stones(vocally not as much musically) Bill Hurley had that Mick Jagger vocal down pat.What do you all think of The Inmates? I kind of doubt they are still together? I think I read somewhere that after Bill Hurley left the band,that Barrie Masters(former lead singer with Eddie And The Hot Rods) took over as the new lead vocalist.

Do any of you own any of The Inmates record albums,and if so how did you like their style?

I have the Inmates album, "First Offence", with the song "Dirty Water" The cd is a pricey import these days. I always loved the song "Love Got Me." Really peppy!

I would like to find their other cds. I think they released two or three more albums.

Two thumbs up for The Inmates.[8D] They remind me of another great pub-rock band, Dr. Feelgood.[:)]

There are numerous Inmates CD's, at least 6 because I have them and they are all great. A delaer had them for sale at a record convention for $8 each (CD) and I scooped them all, they are all well worht having!!
