Just curious. Songs were snappy and gimmicky.

I don't really think so, IMHO.
Maybe "Valley Girl"... maybe?
I think Frank was on his own wavelength that transcended a lot of areas.

Has anybody really decided what New Wave is anyways?

Heavy Mental
Folk
and was willing to tell you why he wasn't any of the above.

That is kind of like asking if Alice Cooper was New Wave in a way.Well at least his Flush The Fashion album was,and what a great single he released from that also.I love "We're All Clones"

No, Zappa was a "twisted hippie". I remember some dj describe him as such. I think it sums him up perfectly.

Well I believe Zappa was akin to Bowie,i.e. played everything and fitted into every genre of music...an outsatnding yes from me!![;)]
