Erroneous use of NW label

Postby Dave » Wed Jun 30, 2004 11:44 am

Recently, I've seen some pretty wacky references on this board to "supposed" new wave bands... Beastie Boys, Hall & Oats, even Air Supply! Guess I can understand the Cheap Trick discussion, but there have been some pretty big whiffs.

Are there any simple guidelines to help the uninitiated? How about this as a general rule? If there were no skinny ties or synthesizers, then it probably wasn't a new wave band.

I'm pretty sure Air Suplly had both also, I guess that just leaves the Beastie Boys, hang on I have a vague memory of Adrock noodling on a Jupiter 6 once while wearing one of those thin black leather jobbies.[^]

Air Supply? AIR SUPPLY!?
I had completely forgotten about them. I hope to again soon.

I guess this goes back to the question of: "What is New Wave?".
Has anybody ever even defined the movement or even what it includes?
It's a bit more than skinny ti

And back we go to the Hall and Oats topic again. AAAAAH! How dare they with their skinny ties and funny dance moves. They dance like Molly Ringwald in the breakfast club!
Actually I was just laughing about how some artists kind of dressed and danced the
