80s psych and garage

Am if the only fan on the 80s garage-psych scene who posts here?

Some of my faves from the era-Rain Parade (David Roback is still recording)-Plasticland (from Wisconsin)-Soft Boys/Robyn Hitchcock/Egyptians-Lyres-Last-Vipers-Fuzztones (imagine the Ramones as serious acid eaters).

These bands helped open the whole nuggets environment to me-I some of my fave 60s bands are Tommy James (don't laugh-he could write psych and rave up tunes)-The Music Machine-Paul Revere and the Raiders (same argument about Tommy James)-The Seeds and 13th Floor Elevators.

The mid-80s DID have some parallels to the mid-60s-lots of bands doing the DIY thing as far as booking gigs and doing indy recordings. The only main diff was that the 80s bands were a little more self-conscious about the whole thing where as the 60s bands were blindly flailing about.

I would NEVER laugh at Tommy James and The Shondelles. I have that anthology on Rhino and it's some pretty heavyweight Pop music.

I too enjoy 80s garage/psych bands, and would add even The Three O'Clock as one of the paisley pop bands. What about The Eyes of Mind - Tales From The Turquoise Umbrella, and even on a softer note, the collaboration of great artists that were "Rainy Day".

Ah yes-Fringe vests and Beatle boots were seen quite around a bit in the 1980s-the Rainy Day comp is great-just a bunch a' people sitting around doing songs they love.

You are not alone... I'm a huge fan of the Psych Pscene (all phases of it actually!) I've been collecting Soft Boys and Robyn Hitchcock since the

Mention should also go to the Aussie and Swedish bands that do this music that we all love. Bands like The Stems, Screaming Tribesmen, Lime Spiders, Hoodoo Gurus, Scientists, Count Bishops, Pyromaniacs, Nomads, etc.

I'm not sure I would consider the Fleshtones psych-they have more of a beat-rave-up sound-Personally I always enjoyd their own name for their music-SUPER ROCK-

One of the reasons I enjoyed the whole britpop thing was because it reminded me of the hip

Hey, Tommy James is very under rated. Almost all of his songs were remade by other groups. And he did the ground breaking while they got the hits.
What about T rex? I know they were glam too but have you seen the videos? Great group.

By The By-I Understood it was Michael Quercio of the Three O'Clock who coined the term "paisley Underground" and started using it in the press.
