What is the appeal of Goth??

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

I'm not one of those people that can act as evrything's alright and see the world rose-tinted. I tried it and failed so bad at it.
Sometimes things are obscure, complex and not perfect... and it's good that there's a genre that can accompany that sensation .

The single greatest quality of the people I was acquainted with in the "new wave"(then "alternative" scene back in the day, was their genuine love and concern for one another. Kids trying to carve out an identity for themselves, gay or straight, depended on their friends for mutual acceptance and understanding. There were a lot of hugs that went around back then, guy or girl.

To say something like "Being a goth is all about being self-centered, morbid and depressed," shows an alarming failure to fully educate oneself and to make an honest effort to try to understand other lifestyles and beliefs. Blanket characterizations and stereotypes serve no ones best interest.

I've known a lot of people that thought being "goth" was about their choice of music, fashion, and their "look". The media promotes this idea. Goth is more about how you respond to the world. I have always responded to the darker aspect of art, music, literature, and life. I find contentment in silence, and shadow. Death intrigues me as the ultimate inevitability, and how other people past and present have responded to it, is also of interest. I'm not obsessed about these things, but there is a fusion of dark and light in my personality. I'm at peace with that.

There are alot of goths here in the uk, I go to a pub which is owned by a goth, most goths are pretty nice people. Not depressing at all! I liek to dress abit gothic now and again myself. What annoys me is all these younger kids who think goth is just aboutdying your hair black, wearing black being depressed and stuff. And then they go listen to music that isn't goth at all and have no knowledge of the history of the genre. I get called 'goth' by little kids because I'm alternative go figure.[:D][:0]
