I can't believe I nearly missed this one:
As I was listening to buffalochipz's cd mix, I was struck by how closely the opening of "Dates" (R. Stevie Moore) matches "Making Plans for Nigel" (XTC).
So I googled, and I found this on some R. Stevie Moor
