I've made a request to get the film into a local theater in PA. I personally know the owner; and he has told me that he would try to get it in.

Okay, I saw the film tonight… it was wonderful! I knew nothing of Klaus Nomi until a heard a song or two from jeromeQc's brilliant online radio station (XWAVE).

Not only did I find Nomi's story to be deeply interesting, I think the documentary itself was very well done. The deliberate moments where the music abruptly stops and starts really added something to the interviews.

And I loved how the interviewed Aunt, whom I imagined didn't want to be filmed, was visually represented—as a figure in a diorama! There was something very sweet and tender about that setup.

I did see the Marbles credited in the end, but I'm unfamiliar with their music. I did recognize one snippet of a Wire song.

After 5 weeks, The Nomisong has closed at Cinema Village in NYC.
Quite a long run for this venue! Usually a week or two for most films.

I caught this on Sundance yesterday morning. Knowing the Sundance Channel, it will be run a few thousand times this month.

I really liked it, and was incredibly impressed. I didn't know much about Klaus Nomi at all. I always thought he was just a one-note weirdo. I didn't realize the support & popularity he had. I also loved the performance pieces in the movie.

Even if you don't like him, I'd encourage you to check out the movie - it's a great testemant to the "anything & everything goes" spirit of the early new wave scene. I don't think anything like him or his show will ever exist again...

I have to admit, I didn't know much about Klaus Nomi before watching "The Nomi Song". After watching it, I'm inspired to go out and buy his cds. Unfortunately, I'm broke so that will have to wait. If only he hadn't died so young, he would have changed pop music.

I hate to say that the movie may be better than his music. He contribution may have been more through his performance pieces. I seriously doubt he would have changed pop music. IMHO.

I agree - I can only take one or two songs at a time. I liked him as a performer much more than the actual music. In other words - I would have gone to a show just to see the performance pieces & what they came up with, rather than being into the songs themselves.

I think he would have changed pop music in the way that Grace Jones did - not a lot except for some boundary pushing & a cult status - maybe making way for some toned-down version to come along in the future.

All in all though - great movie - I've thought about it a lot since watching it Saturday.

Damn, I really enjoyed re-reading this thread. AND seeing these same folks at follow-up events - Skinnytie at Gang of Four and the record fair, JustJohn at British Sea Power (heh), and Schwenko at too many events to mention. Bummed to have missed Cubby at GOF in Philly. There needs to be more of this shit!
