Old Mix Tapes

I never liked Dolby NR either. I never tried metal tapes, but always went with high bias tapes, because the high end stuff is what seemed to get lost most easily.

Never had a mixer, but would have loved one. All pause button for me, but I would carefully rewind the tapes by hand to make tight segues.

High CRO2, minimum! Metal tapes for REEEAAALLLYYYYY special recordings. Some of them got really expensive! Like 10 dollars! And Dolby NR is a joke. I used it like once (the other day, never back in the day, lol) listening to a tape that was really, really, very high in tone and the upper echelons of the equalizer. DNR brought all that hiss way down and I boosted up the bass to give it a little more depth. Otherwise DNR just messes with the clarity of a perfectly good recording by 'flattening' it.

ahhh, what a great thread. i used to love making mixed tapes. i wish i still had them, but i think they're probably all in boxes in my parents basement.

but i definitely still love making mixed CDs, but the problem is that I get too obsessive about it... it will take me months sometimes to get a CD right to the point I am happy with it. Well, those are my "official" CDs. I sometimes burn quickie mixes for trips, etc... but my "official" CDs are very much like a creative process to me.

i know, i'm a geek it's all good though.
