I only own their "best of" but It's My Life is easily one of the top 5 greatest songs of any genre for the entire decade of the 80's. It's a hauntingly sublime song to me and Gwen's version made me realize how great the original version was.

OK a little bit of research revealed that there are something like 4 different original 12" remixes of 'Life's what you make it' :
Extended dance version 6.54
Extended version 8.28
Dub mix 6.06
Early/German 12" mix 6.39
I can't remember which one I liked best, but it's not the one on A-Sides/Besides [:(]

I've been sitting on this thread for two weeks, taking my time with 'Spirit of Eden'.
I can see why a previous Talk Talk fan might not like it. The songs just go on and on. There is guitar noodling. No catchy drum beats to speak of.
Yet, I can't say I'm disappointed with it. If it was an entirely different band who were releasing their debut, you might find the music easier to accept (or you still might hate it). But either way, it just isn't as immediately rewarding as their earlier material.
I guess I admire them for trying. And I appreciate Sean getting me to go back and listen to Talk Talk after a long absence on the turntable.
