I've been a B-52s fan probably since I was around 8 or 9 years old, and I think that "Rock Lobster" was the first B-52s song that I heard.
I saw them at the Irvine Meadows Ampitheater in 1989 or so, and they were great live. I still love the B-52s and I want to see them again live since they have been touring small theaters in Anaheim and L.A.

I remember the first time I heard the original version of this song when it came out as a single. They played it on WPIX-FM in NY, they had some kind of New Wave show before WLIR. There was no rhythm guitar part in the original, just the lead guitar. If I recall, they used a guitar that didn't have all 6 of its strings. It was great then, very quirky and unique. I like it even better in the popular version that everyone knows.

Although this is a good dance song, I've always enjoyed "52 Girls" more! That one song, if you move to every beat, can give you a better aerobic workout than a half hour on a treadmill! Okay, well, you might have to follow it up with "Strobe Light" from the second album.

Anyone from NY remember that WPLJ decided for about a month to include New Wave songs in '80 or '81? They added "Private Idaho" and "Whip It" to their classic rock playlist. I even remember hearing a song by the Undertones. But it only lasted a short while. Then they went back to nice safe regular rock!

and it was ricky wilson who got me into the lifelong habit of using 12-gauge strings on guitar, nice and heavy - he got the idea from the ventures(that i also got into - better band than the shadows: that opinion got me into some arguements!)
as long as i have a sense of humour, i'll always like the B's!
been listening to their "party-mix" album a lot recently, i owned it on vinyl when it came out, but only recently got it cd, great to hear the remixed versions again!

Saw them live at Hofstra in November of '82!!!

Garage Bill... I too first heard them on WPIX (now CD101.9) in the summer of '79. My Mom caught me dancing to it (Rock Lobster)
My first car was a brown and gold 1973 Plymouth Satellite (just so I could play Planet Claire).

I remember I knew this long haired and leather jacket guy from HS and I bumped into him in front of TSS (The Shit Stores) in Elmont around 1980 and he turned on his boom box by the entrance "Planet Claire" and two Chinese girls waiting outside started dancing.
Then I remember being at a New Jersey Highway rest stop (again around 1980 ) in my parents car and heard "Planet Clair" blasting from a yellow Lincoln Mark VII or Continental and a whole bunch of people were jumping up and down and dancing inside of it.
