A-ha's new CD - "Analogue"

Great to see so many a-ha fans! They are definitely one of the great underrated bands of the 80's. Their influence is evident in bands like Coldplay and Snow Patrol, definitely.

I would strongly recommend their 2nd album "Scoundrel Days" to anyone who hasn't heard it. It would be my pick for their strongest work - every track is killer. "East of the Sun, West of the Moon" is another amazing record. My least favorite is their 3rd album, "Stay on these Roads", but even that has some very good moments.

I hope the new album really opens them up to a wider audience in the US, because there are alot of great a-ha albums out there waiting for people to get into. In a way, it's a shame "Take on Me" was such a huge hit. Yes it was a great song, but it's acted like a noose around their neck in some ways all these years, and has given the wrong impression to alot of people that a-ha is a one-hit wonder.

It's funny you referenced "Take On Me" like that, Zalasta - the tour guide book (that I bought at the concert at Wembley Pavilion tonight here in London - I reviewed the show on the other a-ha thread going) quoted Mags as saying "Having our first single reach number one everywhere was a curse wrapped up as gift; everything we did afterward was compared to that level of success."

I'm obviously preaching to the choir on this, since you're all fans, but if a-ha comes to the States you HAVE to go see them. The show was freaking incredible.

wow! just watched the video for "analogue". that song is a hit! i hope the rest of the album sounds like this. lifelines was too wispy and slow. i miss the passion they had in scoundrel days - and i also miss the harder sound they had in memorial beach.

mundial - do you have vogts villa? 'here i drommen' is one of my favorite songs ever. i would love to hear an english version.

sorry mundial, i confused your post with beserker. i think he listed wild seed as a favorite album. vogts villa is morten harket's norwegian album (not the traditional christmas one) and it is really good. it has the norwegian version of 'all of you concerned' which is another morten harket classic.

i haven't purchased a copy of analogue yet. would you consider it closer to lifelines or minor earth major sky?

It's actually not at all like "Lifelines" or "Minor Earth Major Sky". Songs that are kind of like the ones in "Analogue" are "Mary Ellen Makes The Moment Count" and "White Canvas". I hope that makes sense...
