ny punk scene,then and now

Great late 70s NY punk scene had something for everyone-Art punks like Television,Patti Smith and Shirts,electronic rockabilly from the Suicide,left field garage punk from bands like Cramps,Fleshtones and pure punk rock with Dead Boys,Tuff Darts,Ramones.Some obscurities may be Wayne County,Bush Tetras(before No Wave),Kid Creole and the Coconuts and others,but later.From all them,only a few were influential.Which are your favourites,why and could be ever created a same avantgarde/punk scene in our days(remember Liars,Yeah Yeah Yeahs,Gogol Bordello).

Well of course the Ramones were/are Gods. Loved the Dictators, NY Dolls, Cro-Mags, Old Beastie Boys (pre-rap).

There is a pretty thriving music community in NYC but most of these bands are finding acceptance elsewhere. Sadly the spectre of Ramones/Talking Heads/Blondie/the days of CBGB's/etc. hangs so heavy that a lot of new bands are held up against that period which is just unfair.
