What is Robert talking about?

Any opinions on what Robert Smith is singing about in Kyoto Song (it's in The Head On The Door LP). The lyrics of this songs are weird: What looks good and tastes like nothing on earth????
Was Robert on acid when he wrote this?? Probably yes!! Anyway, it's one of Cure's best songs and strangely it's one of the least famous ones.
