Anyone else see the new Mountain Dew MDX drink commercial with the bat floating around to "Sunglasses at Night"? It really is a pretty cool song. I bag on him for laughs but I might just have to revisit.

Huh, and another soda commerical tonight to Adam Ant's "Goody Two Shoes". It was the Diet Coke one with the girl getting a short-short haricut.

OMG, they just changed this theme to Goldfrapp's new US Single "Ooh La La". My kids noticed right away! They dragged me to the TV screaming, "hey dad, dad, they changed the song on that commerical. Isn't it Goldfrapp?" I so proud, sniff. [^]

Well, I think the best coup by New Wave in advertising these days is by Madness. In a Maxwell House commercial the cast is singing along to "Our House" but with new words, then THE VERY NEXT commercial I saw featured "It Must Be Love". How great that the only two American hits they ever had have both been tapped to schlepp American goods--and that I saw them back to back. Good for them! I hope they spend the residuals wisely. I was working in a record shop when Trio's "Da Da Da" was in the auto commercial and people were coming left & right to ask about that "new" song. Cool. I guess that's how my parents' felt when "Dancing In The Street" made it to Madison Avenue.

Anyone catch Papa John's Pizza commercial using the Go-Gos We Got the Beat? Thing is, they changed the words to "We Got the Meat." I'm not kidding!

OMG, I thought I was hearing things when Oo La La La played in the Diet Coke commercial, because I could swear Good Two Shoes played the last time I saw the commercial. I wonder why Coke changed the song after only a couple weeks? I wonder whether it was a conscious marketing decision from the start to mix it up, or maybe the Adam Ant song bombed and Coke scrambled to find a song to replace it, or maybe there were licensing/copyright problems with the Adam Ant song.

I think it has most to do with Goldfrapp's Supernature finally seeing its US release this Tuesday. The marketing blitz is on. Ooh La La was also last week's free song on iTunes. And I'll be seeing her in less than two weeks at SXSW...with Morrissey on the same bill no less!

Oops. Silly me--I said the name of the song wrong. Oo La La.

And I am so envious of you going to that extravaganza! Can I stow away in your suitcase?
