Even though it was a collection of songs it holds together quite well. It could also be nostalgia as I kind of started listening to them around this time and got it along with Speak and Spell and A Broken Frame at the same time.

P.S. I like the Spoons also and run the website (band endorsed but not an "official" website). They have a DVD coming out on September 12 with 2 shows from the early 80's Talk Back era.

Sorry, I didn't really count that "album" as an "album," since Warner Bros., I think, just released that as a way to catch people up with DM, since they released so many 7- and 12-inchers--as imoprts only--that the U.S. market needed the "People Are People" complilation, as well as the "Catching Up With Depeche Mode" LP, or are they one and the same?? Because I really don't remember a "P-R-People" LP, or I'm just confused because my records are: (1) not handy, (2) I'm being way too lazy to go see, (3)I never bought it when it came out because I have all those 7 and 12 incheers, or (4)... I think some of Bill Nelson's songs are very experimental in the use of the synthesizer, like Empire of the Senses.

... ditto for me (though as a nipper it didn't stop me and my mates singing "Underpaaaants!" during the chorus). "Burning car" has a similiar effect on me as does OMD's "Romance of the telecsope" and Visage's 7" mix of "Night Train" (great bass from Barry Adamson on this track). Other almost-complete synth mentions in dispatches include Ultravox's "Thin Wall", Kraftwerk's "Tour De France", and especially Thomas Dolby's "Windpower".
