OMD meet Joy Division

I think it would make for an interesting repeat repertoire to do some old Joy Division stuff. I mean, it's not like NewOrder does not have the chops to do it. They're an established tour de force even now (although I still hate them for not doing any actual gigs in Southern California and for not releasing more hard-to-get material[}:)] ). Pink Floyd is Pink Floyd. That band imploded with the egos of the separate bandmates. Joy Division only had one arsehole in the lot and that dude kicked the bucket under very unfortunate and untimely circumstances.

New Order doing Joy Division is fine by me. Is it the same? Of course not. But so what? Better than nothing if you ask me. And I was happy to tell Peter Hook when I met him that I think Ian Curtis would be proud of what they're doing. I have Barney on tape somewhere hoping for the same thing. It's the same band and it's not like they got a new singer. That would be true posing IMHO. These are the guys that actually [i]wrote[/i] Joy Division music along with Ian. I think they're doing Ian a tremendous service by honoring the work they did together and making live on, live stronger. This is truly what I always hoped for. And I would always have to almost pass it on as sort of a joke because no one ever found such a wish realistic. I even made a compilation years ago from all my bootleg stuff of this very thing, New Order doing Joy Division. Fuck it, it's brilliant. Yet more reason to support that New Order are doing some of their best work ever right now.

Keep going fellas. We'll be waiting with open arms for everything you have planned.

BTW, any word on the Peter Hook bassist supergroup project?

Wow... I respect that a lot.... though for me it's not the same without Ian... I know there can't be no one better to play Joy Division songs than Peter, Bernard and Stephen.
