...and Missing Persons did play there too. They're really the only ones I remember. At least two stages running simultaneously, I think.

It might have been between the US Festival and Live Aid, or just before the one, or just after the other. Definitely that era, though.

Two or three day concert, on or at the beach, I keep thinking Palos Verdes but I'm pretty sure it was actually somewhere around Long Beach. (Angels Gate Park in San Pedro, maybe?) I'm pretty sure it was sponsored by a radio station, and for some reason I don't think it was KROQ.

I only got to go that first afternoon, and was kept home by my parents for the rest of it, much to my consternation, when reports of "gang violence" hit the news that night.

Had to have been the middle of the summer, which is why I'm sure it wasn't the US Festival. I was only in Southern California between classes back then, so it must have been June, July, or August. Nothing noteworthy about it, I suppose, because it wasn't run for any particular cause -- sort of like the HFStivals of today, it was just a radio station and a few soft drink and other promotional sponsors getting together to mount what was, at the time, what seemed like a pretty big concert. But damn if I can remember what it was called, or who else played there, or track it down online anywhere.

It looks like it ran from the end of May until June.

Actually, I may be thinking of a composite of several events over the years, to be honest. The only bullet points I have to offer in trying to narrow down what this could possibly be is that I remember Missing Persons being on one of the stages in the afternoon (so it was 1986 or before), it was when I was in Southern California (so it was some time after school let out, circa mid-June, until the end of the summer, circa mid-August), and I remember being able to see the ocean near the stages. All of which rules out the US Festival -- unfortunately, because that would be a cool gig to get to say I attended, even if I can't remember much of it.

I want to say that it was relatively uncrowded, but I also want to say it was free, or really cheap -- which seems like a contradiction in terms. But it really feels like it was just a small radio station-sponsored street festival rather than a big gigantic concert event.

Thanks, though -- at the very least, that web site helped convince me that it *wasn't* really the US Festival I was thinking of after all.

Hey shad0wcapt, if you Google MP you will get all kinds of MP-related sites (official, unofficial, fansites, etc) and I seem to recall one of them had a pretty thorough documentation of band history, discography and tour info. Maybe that will help you figger it out.
