Some of my favorite mixes have come from the DJ services - Hot Tracks and Disconet. Hot tracks was always more popular, but I think Disconet did some good stuff with extending a mix beyond just cutting & breaking. Razormaid also did some great stuff.

I like the PWL mixes whether it was Pet Shop Boys or Rick Astley.

I'll always love the work of Tom Moulton - maybe the original remixer and supposed inventer of the 12" single.

Patrick Cowley's early electro/techno stuff was great.

Arthur Baker did some good things, but unfortunatly I think he ran out of ideas pretty early on. Everything had the same cuts & breaks, the same added instrumentation. It all sounded the same fairly quickly. But, he did help make remixers as famous as the artists - maybe that was his reason for creating a sound & sticking to it.

Of the modern remixers, I love:
Rollo
Sister Bliss
Matt Darey
Ferry Corsten
Trouser Enthusiasts

I really dislike Junior Vasquez & Thunderpuss - most of Junior's stuff is unlistenable to me, and like Thunderpuss - it's all formula, all sounds exactly like the last mix, and no longer innovative.

Wolvie, I have to give you the BBC Radio 2 six part special series I recorded, Good Times, the Story of Disco. You'd love it since you're really into the genre but also because Tom Moulton is interviewed as are many other dance music pioneers like Maria Torres, Nile Rogers, David Mancuso, Frankie Knuckles, Gloria Gaynor, Jazzy B, Norman Jay, Jellybean, Nicky Siano and tons of others. Like all BBC documentaries, it's well researched and very well produced. It really is a great listen.

You mentioned DJ services. I have quite a bit of material from X-Mix and Nu Dance Traxx I'd be happy to share as well.

As for remixers...I couldn't say. I hate most remixes and remixers, but if I had to choose one I really detested, it would be Junior Vasquez. I haven't heard mix where he didn't totally screw up the song.
