Question at hand--Which do you prefer--The younger Kim Wilde and her early music or the older Diva-ash Kim Wilde and her later music. For me its no contest--younger Kim wins hands down butI know the older Kim has a lot of fans as well.

Original Kim all the way. She was a little different than the other new wave girls - a little distant, alienated, detached, kind of spooked by something, not just somebody who was pretty - but had good songs too, and there was a little punky vibe to her.

Her first album is one of my all time favorites. The later stuff disappointed me - she became just like every other late 80's pop/dance singer.

I totally agree with you WolverineSyr, she was somehow different.
Beside the early stuff, I also liked her songs during the second half of the 80's, when she turned herself to a pop diva. During the 90's she had some really disappointing songs that destroyed her career.
The worst of all, the cover "Born to be wild", utter crap!

Those first 2 albums by Kim are essential to any New Wave collection. I really haven't heard anything later than Select, which came out in what, 1981?

I'm still smitten with her 25 years on, too.
