The Laughing Dogs

Hi,
I just came across this message board so I thought I'd drop in and say hello.
My name is Jimmi and I was in a band called The Laughing Dogs in from 1976-1980. We had 2 albums out on Columbia records. We also had 2 songs on the Live @ CBGB album. We played at CBGB all the time with Talking Heads, Blondie, John Cale, The SHIRTS, Television, Mink DeVille, etc. We also toured with Patti Smith, Blondie, The Sinceros, etc.
We never considered ourselves Punk or New Wave. And I'm sure that was the case for many other bands back then who were labled "Punk" or "New Wave". It's just that at that time there were no other clubs besides CBGBs & Max's Kansas City where a band could play their own orignal songs. So being songwriters, that's where we played. We started reading about ourselves in magazines being grouped in with all the other bands who played at CBGBs.
We started playng there in 1976 and were called "Punk" because we played with Television, The Dead Boys and The Ramones. Then, around 1979 everyone playing at CBGB stared getting signed to record labels and were being called "New Wave".
I guess what we were is what is now called "Power Pop". We never called ourselves that either. But that would fit better than anything else.
Anyway, I'm new here and I just wanted to say hello.
