Computer Programs on Vinyl

I came across these links earlier in the week and I've just been fascinated.

Supposedly, to summarize, you could encode the audio version of cassette-based programs for early home PCs onto vinyl. Then the buyer would tape the vinyl and be able to play the program.

Here's some more info that includes mentions of programs that came with Pete Shelley's XL-1 album (UK pressing) and on a Thompson Twins flexi-disc: http://www.boingboing.net/2007/06/19/vi ... den_i.html

As a Thompson Twins fan, I thought, "cool, a Thompson Twins game." If you played the adventure games in the late 70s, you will recognize the format: N, S, E, W; LOOK, TAKE, etc. etc.
You can download the original Sinclair programs, magazine adverts, screens here:

And if you want to play it you can click on a link on that page, or click on this (included for your convenience):

All of that said, this is pretty interesting from a historical standpoint. Gameplay is pretty sucky, and the story behind the TT game specifically is just goofy. The XL-1 program (and related link) that shows visuals and lyrics is probably a better use of the technology.

Just thought you'd be interested.

Wasn't there a computer program on a Kissing The Pink single too? Possibly "The Other Side Of Heaven".
