Yes, I know Roger Water's tribute to Syd Barrett isn't new wave at all.

But not-quite-new-wave pop rockers Steel Breeze took their name from a couple lines in the song:

"You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze..."

"Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze."

Judging from their body of work, or at least "You Don't Want Me Anymore", which is the only song of theirs I know, I wouldn't have listed Pink Floyd among their major influences.

Also, not-exactly-new-wavers The Waterboys' song "The Whole of The Moon", which is supposedly about C.S. Lewis in some way or other, has lyrics that go,

"You were there in the turnstiles
With the wind at your heels
You stretched for the stars
And you know how it feels
To reach too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon"

Which sounds as if they might have lifted and expanded upon this line from "Shine On..":

"You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon."

Just some random barely new wave related thoughts for a Tuesday morning.

I thought the Steel Breeze name thing had to be a coincidence so I looked it up. It's true [:0].

That song's been in my head ever since I read your post this morning [8D]. I guess I'd better put in on ... haven't heard it since 4/20!
