question about the film Sixteen Candles

just recently watched this film again and cant seem to figure out a song from the film
it is when Molly Ringwald enters the school dance and the song playing sounds similiar to Madness' Our House but it is not
anyone have a clue of who the artist and the song is?

I think this was answeed before, search the archeves... The answer provided was something along the lines of the Madness song "Our House" couldn't be licensed in time for film release, or they couldn't get it, and so the film score composer, whoever that was, composed something similar to Madness' "Our House" song. Any one back that up?

This WAS a topic a long way back (back when I was a lot better about participating here) and I recall there wasn't a 'mystery artist' or anything...it was something along the lines of what glokstadt describes.

I remember being pretty excited when I finally found out it was the Rezillos who do the song playing when Long Duck Dong arrives at Jake Ryan's party - - wondered about that one for a long time.
