It was a snowy night and I wound up with a 6 hour show rather than my usual weekly 4 hours so I took it as an opportunity to comb the archives for a few more interviews from recent years.

I love Sue talking about the lengths we went to in order to get reception in the early days. I was in Brooklyn at the time and have very fond memories listening to all these great bands for the first time through the veil of static and fuzz [:o)] Part of the fun was definitely trying to tune in and then going in to the Village to try and find the records. The obscurity somehow made the music even more appealing and interesting than it already was.

LOL I've often wondered if I would have been as hardcore of a WLIR/WDRE listener if I didn't have to struggle to get the signal. You're right, that was about half the fun. [:D]

That said, some of my favorite songs sound less special without that extra layer of static I remember.

In the past, whenever we've had any of those best New Wave songs of all time competitions here on NWO, I always, always, always went back to the time of struggling to tune in to LIR. Pretty much all the songs I put down were first heard in those early, hazy reception days. To me, that was my golden era of music [8D]
