I argue that Simple Minds 'Sparkle In The Rain' should actually make the list. "East At Easter" has a cool, repetative guitar sound that sets the mood, with the song then building to a very powerful peak. IMHO, side one fits this thread perfectly!

I always liked the first 6 songs of The Bluebells "Sisters": Everybody's Somebody's Fool, Young at Heart, I'm Falling, Will She Always Be Waiting, Cath, Red Guitars. Never liked any of the rest.

It's not a terrible song-- it builds nicely, but it's just that the rest of the album kicks such resounding ass in contrast. Maybe it's a Steve Lillywhite thing. He did the same out-of-left-field tempo-change with Drowning Man on U2's War. Again here, Drowning Man is a powerful song, but consider that it's sandwiched between 'Like a Song' and 'The Refugee', arguably two of U2's finest moments.

I was going to cite Thomas Dolby's [b]Golden Age of Wireless[/b] here, but there are about 6 different versions of the album with different songs and track sequence. In any case a bunch of his albums are candidates for the 5-in-a-row award. [b]Aliens Ate My Buick[/b] (which is available from Amazon MP3 for $3.68) has a strong opening 5.
