Not to draw any more attention to myself than I have by starting this thread, but I just wanted to re-introduce myself to the community.

I originally signed up here at NWO at the end of 2004, but then went to Iraq for a year with the Army's 3rd Infantry Division, so I pretty much disappeared during that time.

Now, I'm back in the USA, and somehow, I remembered my login ID and password the first time.

Just wanted to say- I'm happy to be here (again) among you all and wanted to qualify all the sudden interjections of myself all over the forum for those of you who were wondering who the FNG (fucking new guy for those unfamiliar with military jargon) doing all the posting.

I just met Lt. Col Sossaman here at a football coaching clinic, he just got back and retired 6 months ago, what an inspiring speaker! Appreciate all you have done for us!

I was stationed at FOB Warhorse, northeast of Baghdad about 30 km, and was on the brigade staff there. It was a much different experience from when I was there the first time in 2003 in one of the maneuver battalions- it was much more of a shooting war than it is now.

We're making some good progress there, especially with the rebuilding of schools, government and infrastructure, and the training of Iraqi security forces. While I was there, we shut down two forward operating bases in our sector and handed over a third to the Iraqi Army. We still have a ways to go, but we're handing over the security operations to the Iraqis more and more and taking a hands-off/advisory approach to many major operations.

Overall, it was a good experience, but I'm so happy to be back stateside and to be honest, would be thrilled if I never had to set foot in Iraq again.

This may sound like a dumb question, considering how many of our guys are over there, but did you happen to know a Major Jack Coleman? He just came back to the states a few weeks ago. Silly question, I know.

No, don't know him. But not a silly question, either. It's a small world and even smaller army- you never know.

I'm a major too, so I might've run into him somewhere and not even have known it.
