your favorite TEARS FOR FEARS album & why???

MY FAVORITE TEARS FOR FEARS ALBUM IS......."the hurting" !!!!!
i'm a musician & when i first heard tears for fears, "the hurting"
in very early 1983,man,i was totally blown away!!!!
there was nothing out there that came close with production,arrangements,vocals,song writing.
the hurting was truly very original (especially for 1983) and a breath of fresh air.
the hurting was never off my turn table in 1983 or 1984 etc...


i didnt care much for,"songs from the big chair". it sounded like an album really being made to find an american audience since the hurting didnt really catch on in the states.



the only other tears for fears album that comes in to a very,very close second for me is,"seeds of love".
just for the fact it's very original too,but most of all,a very mature sounding piece of an album.
all the electronics are gone,no synths.,no drum machines etc...
if you've read the liner notes to the remastered cd of,"seeds of love"., singer/songwriter,oleta adams really changed & influenced roland's & curt's approach to their music in getting back to their musical roots with seeds of love.
so,,,,,,i love the hurting & seeds of love !!!!!!

Definitely the Hurting for me too. This was when they dared to be different and when they were the most New Wave. Songs like Mad World, Change, Pale Shelter, are staple New Wave songs. They were also the coolest visually during this period. Love the videos for all of these songs.

I, of course loved the Hurting and, like many people I knew listened to it incessently in the early 80s. However, my overall favorite LP by Roland is Raoul and the Kings of Spain, released in the mid 90s. Pristine production, great songwriting--lots a hooks, and lyrics that surrounded a central theme. All reasons this is my #1 TFF LP.

The Hurting... it's a great album. The kind of album in which you don't skip any track.
The songwriting it's one of the best I've seen...to write such a beautiful song as "Mad World", requires a huge talent.

The Hurting! At the time it stood out amongst it peers. A very heavy sounding album.

Lets put it this way

The Hurting IS a New Wave album

while The Big Chair is more of a Pop.

The Hurting really brought me into the NW genre with songs like Sufer The Children and Ideas As Opiates. The Big Chair also has good songs but it appeals to the masses more. Everybody Wants To Rule The World and Shout reach no. 1 in the US charts. And Shout gets a little tiresome to the ears.

Seeds Of Love is just fair. I like the Woman In Chains song. It deals with social issues like violence against women.

Elemental. TFF minus Smith also has a share of good songs. Break It Down, Cold and my favorite Goodnight Song. But its never the same without Smith.

The Hurting I still have the cassette.
SFTBG I liked it but it sounded more mainstream.

STSOL was eehhhh The start of sounding Beatlesque.


One or two songs on the following one, but not the entire albums

Everybody was a somewhat disappointment. They sounded like the Old TFF but as the album progressed sounded Beatlesque again. I can take it or leave it.

I love pretty much their whole output. But I have to say the Hurting. They never made another album quite like that one and the songwriting is just excellent. How many adult comtemprary stations would play Pale Shelter, Change, Mad World, or Watch Me Bleed. None. Pale Shelter is probably my fav. song by them. When Songs From Big Chair came out they kind of went into Casey Kasem territory. But even their big hits had some power to them. They never sold out. Well... Maybe just a tincy wincy bit.
