It's funny, because a lot of my favorite bands are USA born; I guess it's the volume of UK/European new wave acts that tips the scales for me.

Though there were a few US new wave bands such as Devo and The B-52's that offered great music at the time, the UK bands of that era were just a bit more risk-taking when it came to their music. IMO of course.

British bands were waaaay much more popular in the Philippines (and still are) and had influenced a lot of our local punk/nw bands!

I could go on for quite a while. And while I voted for England, almost every band I listed (and many I didn't) had a very profound influence on what we listen to today.

Not even a question. There are a couple great US New Wave acts, but we all know where the best stuff is from. Even today, with indie rock, the best is usually from the UK.

The Velvet Underground profoundly influenced a lot of that 80s fare from the UK as well. Plus, there's Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze, Holger Czukay/Can, and Neu! who were German, and they were ahead at times of the UK. Not as accessible, perhaps, but that's a whole other subject[;)]

I'm still discovering so many British New Wave, Indie, Synth,Goth bands that i had never heard of during the 80's.

One place the US ruled over England and still does, are hardcore thrash punk bands like Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Fugazi and nowadays Green Day and dozens of others.

Fair do's The Jerks are a great band and "Get Your Woofing Dog Off Me"
is a minor classic.

As for the name "New Wave", it means something entirely different over here. The "new wave" was first used in the late 70's to describe the emerging punk scene (I recommend NME Original Punk magazine as an excellent reference about this).

In the US it seems to mean a punk attitude mixed in with music that was popular at the time such as pop, syth-pop etc.
