<br>To whom it may concern:
Having grown up in the Mellencamp circle, I feel that y'all need to shut the hell up. I've never been a fan of John's music, but unlike most musicians that we like, he spends a lot of it in his hometown community.
Good. The more time he spends there, the less time he spends spreading his music with Donovan and his ilk.
He financially helps to keep the only mom & pop record store in Seymour IN. in business (where they sell every kind of music, even new wave). He donates funds towards the downtown business district, in protest to Wal-Mart's locust like assault.
My tables,--meet it is I set it down,
That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain."
He treats his family amazingly well, and he has no ego whatso-FN-ever.
No ego, huh? The next time you speak to John, could you act as my proxy, and ask him what went through his head when he wrote "The Authority Song"? Did he say to himself, "gee, I really like 'I Fought The Law', and I know I could get back on the charts if I <del>ripped it off</del> remade it. But there's a thorny legal issue--hey wait, Bobby Fuller's dead, isn't he? Never mind! Joe Bob, Cletus--into the studio! I smell platinum!"
To rip into him, to wish his death (even in a joking manner) is bad form.
I never wished his death; I only wished that he was never born. But since that disturbs you so, I (reluctantly) rescind that part.1
What the hell did he do to any of you? Make some music you don't care for?
No, he made a lot of music I don't care for.
1<font size="1">The part about turning his town into a toxic waste dump and burning his back catalogue in his face still stands.</font>

HAHAHAHA! Nothing like pure hatred [:D]
I think Hutter who obviously likes him, instead of being as defensive, could have summed it up with "Dont' Hate, Appreciate!". I know i said i'm not fond of him, i should have said I'm not fond of his music. I had no idea he did all that charity work and takes care of his family so. Thaks for the info Hutter.
