Please don't take offense... the egg nog's probably finally kicking in and it's been a bit stale around here this week, so we're primed for another controversy. Personally, I found this thread amusing.

As for Mr. Nevil, I'm only familiar with his hit "C'est la Vie," which at the time I regarded more as R&B-ish. I also thought he was well-regarded at the time for his guitar work, but again, I've never heard any other songs. I'm sure you could argue a little New Wave influence. Maybe he's on the "outskirts" as much as, say, Prince.

By the way, he could probably kick Prince's ass this way to Sunday. Prince would probably break a heel.

I personally really liked his cover of "Everybody Plays the Fool"

(note the Clown face C'est---just kidding. As was stated above, I'm not sure if he would be considered New Wave (I would consider him more R'n'B influenced Pop, personally). From what I understand he was supposed to be a very good guitar player who had done a lot of session work with other top 40 acts of the era)

Exactly. And by the same token I reserve the right to go to the "Lightweight Suckfest 80's Artist Outpost" website and post about actual significant bands that mattered.

Like "Boy Meets Girl" for instance.

BTW, with all due respect to the bands mentioned above, Will To Power would probably deliver the knockout blow. Their cover of "Baby I Love Your Way/Freebird" is as fine example of mid-late 80's new wave as you'll hear. I suppose we could argue about whether they were more postpunk than new wave, but that would detract from the true majesty of their cover versions.
