$14.25 to see the triple bill of New Order, E&TBM, and Gene Loves Jezebel on 9/9/87. I'm not sure what I'd pay today - probably 100x that much, especially for NO. This show was at an outdoor amphitheatre at a ski resort outside Salt Lake City - the premiere area concert venue in the day. You'd have 10-15,000 people crowded onto the mountainside at close to 9,000 feet above sea level, cold mountain air, a brilliant nighttime sky, full of stars. There was nothing quite like it. I was sad to see the venue dissappear. I don't see too much discussion of GLJ on the board, but I quite liked them. Of the three bands, E&TBM stands out in my memory as putting on the best performance. At the time I recall New Order having a reputation as being "boring" live, so I didn't give them the attention they certainly deserved, in hindsight.

O.M.D. last July in SummercasePrimavera Sound Festival, Forum Park, Barcelona. I promise you they were absolute astonishing (and astonished of people feedback). And it was a greatest hits gig!!!!

Thompson Twins headlining, with OMD and Toronto locals New Regime opening.

That THESE bands could fill a 16,000 seat hockey arena with shaker-knit sweater and sailor cap-bedecked teenagers seems a world away. Everyone was wearing primary colours, McCluskey danced shirtless, and Tom Bailey sang Auld Lang Syne at the stroke of midnight. Good times. [^]

Good nomination! I was 17; my best friend and I were working a summer security guard job at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, when some guy approached us with a single ticket he'd found on the fairway grounds, for this very show. Job-minded me turned the ducat over to someone at a nearby info kiosk, cursing internally. Still have never seen NO. Never ever. Would've been late August '87.

Waiting for someone to nominate one of those Police Picnics.

I was at that same show that night. It was tremendous, though I'm still having a hard time forgiving ETBM for not playing "Bring on the Dancing Horses" that night [:(!].

I can't just pick one, but will say that the GLJ/ETBM/New Order show is tied with Alphaville in Salt Lake in 1999. Those two stand out above all others.

Where are you now my friend? Still in SLC?

Welcome to the board. It's always great to find people who were at some of the same shows. I have Schwenko to thank for reminding me of the tour flexidisc I somehow managed not to get. As for me, I'm back in Salt Lake after living for a time in California. Utah is pretty well represented on the forums, at least per capita . . .

So many great gigs, and I've mentioned them all before... I'd have to pick: The Specials at The (World Famous) Whiskey A-Go-Go, they sold out an entire week of shows there. Chrisalyis Records repainted the entire inside and out in black and white squares as a promo. A great show, good people and such a great time back in 1981!
