I have been buying all their albums, but sometimes feel like I am obligated to as an ex superfan. With the greatest hits 1988-2003, I don't feel like I would miss any of the albums post-New Adventures if I had to get rid of them. That said, each album still has at least one song I really love...count my vote for "Suspicion" as a really good song.
Nothing compares to the fresh sound of those early records though. Murmer is an amazing album, and still sounds great!
BTW, I think the parody posted by plagairism is dead on! It really captures some of REM's slightly annoying latter period tendancies.

I happen to like everything R.E.M. has put out. I avoided the newer albums for a long time, but am now really glad to own them. The music on Up, Reveal, and Around The Sun speaks to me. I appreciate the changes they have made to their music over the years, and am looking forward to more of it. The band that truly died for me was New Order. I hated everything after Substance. I am the opposite with Depeche Mode. I could not stand their first three albums, but love everything they have done since.
