German band Melotron and he even looks and dances like Dave Gahan!ut it's a very good band with very good lyrics too.
But what clearly distinguishes all these bands from actual DM is the total absence of a Gore figure... they might have singers that sing like Dave but they don't have back-up voices like Martin's. Or composers like him ([:I]). However, this comes from someone who has a crush on Martin and is totally biased.

Check www.obkmusic.com, but mainly search their first releases: they ARE Depeche Mode...[:D]

Well I wouldn't really say 'clone' since they've been around awhile, but a couple weeks ago I saw the new Information Society with Christopher Anton on vocals play live. They even covered Enjoy the Silence and It's No Good. Plus they told me they want to do a DM tribute tour. They do sound similar though. Also he has another band called Psuedocipher and they sound more like DM sounds now with Playing the Angel.. not exactly, there's some female vocals in there but they sound like a slightly more 'rock' version.

There are many good Depeche Mode "clones" out there. Of course there are the ones that have already been mentioned like Celebrate the Nun, Cause & Effect, Cetu Javu, Seven Red Seven, Information Society but also check out these bands that came out around the same time (late 80s / early 90s): Anything Box, Red Flag, Machine In Motion, Book of Love, Anything Box, T42, Moskwa TV, Boytronic, Kon Kan, Ministry (1st album).

And during the 90s there was a huge Depeche Mode clone revival that came out mostly from Europe. Bands that I recommend: De/Vision, Beborn Beton, Elegant Machinery, Children Within, And One, Dark Voices, Melotron, OBK, Moenia, Wolfsheim, Kiethevez, Perfidious Words, Philtron, Condition One, Distain!, Evils Toy/T.O.Y., Neuropa, No Decay, S.P.O.C.K., X-ACT plus many many more!
