ABC's "Beauty Stab", the follow up album to "Lexicon Of Love" was disappointing.

Fear.................More Beer. How do you follow 'The Record' which from start to finish kicks your ass on every track. The Record was so great that it made everything Fear did after that pale in comparison at least for me anyway. Not that their other music wasn't good, just The Record was THAT good.

Naked Eyes "Fuel for the Fire" (1984) was the horrible follow up to their amazing self titled Naked Eyes album (1983).

what frustrated me is when the great bands of the 80s' when they got popular, went commercial as observed in many of the comments
for example
Simple Minds Once Upon a Time
Psychedelic Furs Midnight to Midnight
Echo and the Bunnymen Echo and the Bunnymen
Oingo Boingo Boi-ngo
Depeche Mode Music for the Masses
OMD The Pacific Age
Thompson Twins Here's to Future Days
around the late 80's particular 85-87 is when things chnaged and the much of the orginality began to wane with the music from the greats yielding minor hits
for me, the 80's officially ended in 1988

I would say that New Order, with the albums Get Ready and Waiting for the Sirens Call would qualify for this. Not that there weren't a few good songs on each, but overall....

I wouldn't say the break-up of Japan is disappointing since they weren't a big act... and [i]Tin Drum[/i] does sound like an excellent swan song. Their catalogue runs full circle. I'd imagine that if Japan had made another studio album after [i]Tin Drum[/i], it would've been severely disappointing.

<p align="justify">DeMode's [i]Ultra[/i] and [i]Exciter[/i] are two of the biggest disappointments in their discography. Their live performances, however, have always been good - even the crappy material sounds (and looks) great live[}:)]

every teen (nieces, my friends kids etc) I know have seen EVERY John Hughes film ever made. many times. again --I don't think they have anything good and real of their own so they are just sold what was good and real.

This is true. My daughter is twelve and she LOVES Breakfast Club. She also loves the JC Penney commercial. To JC Penney, that is much more important than me liking it.

Where to begin? Like the 60's bands that started out lean & tight then succumbed to druggy, narcissistic self-absorption the bands of the late 70's sold off a lot of their inventiveness for a coveted spot atop MTV's corporate rotating pleasure head.

The Curse of John Hughes. Why use the original when you can buy an unnecessary and souless retread of "Pretty In Pink"? How about driving a stake through the once manic heart of Oingo Boingo in exchange for the tepid confection that is "Weird Science". OMD? We won't even go there.

All the break ups/dissertions that seemed to occur around '84-'85 (The Clash, The Police, Gang Of Four, Bauhaus, The Boomtown Rats, Stan leaving Wall Of Voodoo, Captain Sensible leaving The Damned, Billy Zoom departing X etc)

The invention of Duran Duran & Dead Or Alive.

I wholeheartedly disagree. That was a phenomenal album and the band's work since then has been right up there with the very best of their early 80's output (if not better on certain tracks).

The rest of you people's suggestions I pretty much agree with (especially Simple Minds and what Blir said about Weller), with the exceptions of [i]Ultra[/i] which is a fantastic album by the Mode, and [i]Get Ready[/i], one of New Order's greatest and a truly exceptional album (one of the best of the noughties).
