'Strangeways' better than 'Queen Is Dead'?
'Avalon' better than 'Country Life'?
'Closer' better than 'Unknown Pleasures'?
'Tin Drum' better than GTP?

I thought we were talking about just great last albums, not necessarily that band's 'Best'.

I thought thats what DJCRAIG meant by 'Hallmark' the best that the band had put out. if not, yes 'Strangeways' is an OK album

It's funny, but I was quite disappointed by Combat Rock. I thought it was such a complete drop off from their first four albums and I'm a huge fan of The Clash. I was very thankful after this album that Stiff Little Fingers had called it a day before releasing an album called Combat Blarney Stone. Of course, if it was their integrity that SLF were looking to maintain, they destroyed that by re-forming a few years later anyway!

Here's what I thought would be obvious: Never Mind The Bollocks. We all know that The Great Rock N Roll Swindle was a soundtrack featuring artists other than the watered down Pistols and doesn't count as a Sex Pistols' album.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

I always thought Ferry's, "Boys & Girls" should've been or was meant to be the follow-up to "Avalon"..
"Boys & Girls" just sounded too much like "Avalon"
[br]What artists created a hallmark recording but then never released another studio album?

First thing I think of is Roxy Music- "Avalon".

Of course, Brian Ferry went on to release solo records and the band still toured.

Maybe Roxy Music couldn't have surpassed "Avalon" but that record showed so much promise, I can't help feeling they left something on the table.

Yes I am.

After they broke up it doesn't count.

Actually "Tony Fletcher walked on Water" was great, but it was an EP.
