Both Kevin Rowland and Al Adams of Dexys Midnight Runners were formerly in a punk band called The Killjoys who released one single, "Johnny Won't Get To Heaven". (By the way, this song is a MUST HEAR. If it is no longer commercially available, I would be more than happy to share this).

Heaven 17 formed when Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware left The Human League. They took their name from a line in the movie The Clockwork Orange.

Dee Dee was originally in a glam band called Butch.

"Joey" Hyman (nee Jeffrey Hyman, aka Joey Ramone) was the drummer in a glam band called Sniper.

Dee Dee auditioned for Television (but they picked Richard Lloyd instead). So did Chris Stein (The Stilettos, Angel and the Snakes, Blondie).

By the way, the one-off record by Johnny and The Self Abusers is also something I could share if not commercially available and if it is wanted.

This seems to indicate that it is NOT available in the mp3 format. I would think that it would be postable (is that a word?) unless someone like amazon or iTunes has it, right? I have never been super clear on this point.

Clover, an unknown Bay Area band, backed Elvis Costello on "My Aim Is True". It's a well known fact that Clover included some guys that went on to form Huey Lewis and The News. A lesser known fact is that the guitarist, John McFee, went on to join the Doobie Brothers during their last (and cheesiest) big era ('79 - '80 or so), while occasionally moonlighting with Elvis up to and including the "Almost Blue" album.

U2 opened for themselves three times on the Joshua Tree tour, under the psuedonym The Dalton Brothers, a fake country band. The band would come out on stage wearing wigs, cowboy hats, and boots to disguise themselves (though the fans figured them out pretty much right away).

The Specials started out as 'The Automatics,' then 'The Coventry Automatcs' to 'The Special AKA The Coventry Automatics' and the tempos of their songs and covers where more in line with the '60s Ska and Rocksteady--then they 'sped' them up! Got their big break by opening on a UK tour with The Clash. The Bananarama 'girls' where skinhead girl groupies of the band.

After The Specials broke up and Terry Hall/Lynval Golding/Neville Staple formed Fun Boy Three, they had Bananarama as their background singers for their first album.

Terry Hall (FB3 era) composed "Our Lips Are Sealed" with Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Go's and was pissed he didn't get more credit when it became a huge hit.

Bananarama originally recorded and performed "I'm Falling," a song written jointly by Siobhan Fahey and Bobby 'Bluebell' of the scottish band The Bluebells, who would later recorded it for their debut album.

Bobby of The Bluebels now teaches about the music industry in Scotland at some school...
