Sirius 1st Wave listeners?

I had Sirius for about a year before I got tired of hearing the same track 3x a day on 1st Wave, so I switched to XM where Fred was a far superior channel with much deeper playlists.
Unfortunately a year or so later when the two merged I was stuck with 1st Wave again.
1st Wave would be a good terrestrial radio station. Safe, songs you recognize, etc. That is Mel's influence I guess. However I pay for sat. radio and expect diversity that I don't get on terrestrial radio. Fred gave me that diversity. They should have kept both.
I still keep my SiriusXM subscriptions in both my cars as overall it is better than anything on terrestrial radio.
Plus, to me there is still something 'magical' about radio - whether terra, sat or internet) that I just don't feel when listening to my iPod hooked up to my car stereo.

I was much more a fan of Fred on XM. Very deep playlist with lots of obscure tracks. Does anyone have the PDFs of the "Fred Essentials" they ran each year?

Got a chuckle when, as I was admiring how excellent the music is at my local pizzeria (Delizia's on 92nd & 2nd), they announced it was 1st Wave. It is a great station for hearing a) in public and b) in the time it takes to down two pepperoni slices.

The station has to tread both sides--appeal to fans and appeal somewhat to the masses.
If you're looking for the deeper cuts, the station won't be viable. Face it, stations devoted to cults within cults (like us here at NWO) are not commercially sustainable. I'm just glad that the station is still there--unlike the now-blended Classic Alternative channel on Music Choice wherein I get subjected to Seattle-era stuff mixed in with a New Wave track.

I really liked Fred until XM was subsumed into 1st Wave. Thereafter, I quickly got sick of the "Top 40" type-of-cuts they play over and over. Basically, my rule of thumb is, if my Mom would recognize the song, it is NOT a deep cut.
So I dropped my subscription, and I've been with my Main Man DJ Ed ever since! [:D]
