Ever go back and listen to Sandinista?

I'm on my second copy of "Sandinista". I bought it the day it came out & for the most part hated it. Sold that copy & picked up another one a few years later & it eventually grew on me. Now I love the entire record, I think it's the last great Clash release. Don't think I'll ever grow to love "Cut The Crap" though!
On a side note, if anyone out there would be willing to burn me a CD copy of "Sandinista", I just got a great sounding live set from the Palladium in 79 that I could trade for it. Any takers?

I actually remember getting the 8-track version of Sandinista (it needed 2)- that was back in '81 when, if you had an 8-track player, you were either woefully behind the times or were trying to hold onto a dying format- or both (I can't even remember if we knew it was on its way out back then, it was in my car). There were a couple songs that were cut right in half by the 8-track- that was such a maddening feature of the format.

All I remember was that there were a lot of good songs on it, but that was also around the time I started DJ-ing at my college radio station and it drove me crazy trying to cue up songs like "Somebody Got Murdered" because there wasn't a clean cut from the song before it. Those were the days...

I wrote about 500 really good words yesterday on Clash history and all kinds of good stuff...pressed the post button and got the dreaded 'SQL ODBC error'...all my words gone...well fuck it...easy answer...

this album, from the moment I got it, has never been out of rotation...shows what I think of it...I'll write the rest when I'm not mad anymore

To me that's why it's so great, that we'd argue endlessly what would make the cut to a double lp and what wouldn't. I think you need all the space that it has to say its piece. It's really a special lp.

Well, I'd have to assume a double-album would have more than 11 songs on it. And while everyone's going to have their favorites (and the European single, "Hitsville UK," admittedly isn't one of mine), I think most people wouldn't need to argue that "One More Dub" and "Version Pardner" are the kinds of things one puts on the B-side of a 12" single.

With that said, the entire 6 sides never had anything that I had to lift the needle and skip, while there are plenty of songs on "Combat Rock" and "Cut the Crap" that I find just absolutely unlistenable. I think the super-low price (at least at the time of release) probably helped.

Oh, and this is the kind of album that you got to have on vinyl. That newspaper thingie with the lyrics on it can't be fully appreciated in its mini-CD replica form!
